So when in 1997 position of creative director in Christian Dior became open, the choice was obvious – John Galliano. So Hubert de Givenchy choose Alexander McQueen. 2 different collections, 2 epic stories with both “characters” presented. McQueen's debut there—the Spring-Summer 1997 couture show of gold and white Grecian-inspired clothes at the École des Beaux Arts—was deemed by critics and clients as an utter failure. For their first patterns by Givenchy’s new designer, Vogue Patterns selected two designs from Alexander McQueen’s second collection for the house, the Fall 1997 ready-to-wear, which was shown in a Parisian slaughterhouse. The first is a sharply tailored evening suit, Vogue 2086, modelled by Jacki Adams:Eclect Dissect, autumn/winter 1997–98.
